A CQ state of mind

I really do have one of the best jobs in the world ...

WHO wouldn’t want my job? I know I've said it before, but I really do have one of the best jobs in the world and I love it. A trip around Central Queensland to photograph different people and places was such a highlight for me.

Queensland is a massive state - until you get an opportunity to drive across it do you really truly understand its vastness and beauty?

Regularly I get to meet politicians and during this trip I met Member for Warrego, Howard Hobbs MP. Mr Hobbs is passionate about the agricultural industry and was a willing subject when it came time to photograph him for a story about the ailing freight network. We headed out and captured a variety of different shots including this one where he was inspecting the rundown railway loading facilities at the Roma saleyards.

I especially enjoy shooting on-farm jobs because you get to drive around people’s properties and see how they live and I am often left feeling envious of their lifestyles. Another few jobs included leads for the Cotton and Grain Outlook, meeting Rick Jones at the Emerald Cotton Gin and Tim Sullivan at Biloela. Mr Sullivan started growing cotton back in 1977.

But the highlight of this five-day trip was meeting Eidsvold local, Len Tucker, who just celebrated his 100th birthday with family and loved ones. He wondered what all the fuss was about!

And then there was 96-year-old Eric Nobbs from Biloela. He thought the photo shoot was about his cattle and sons. When I informed him that we were acknowledging his work and life he didn’t know why that was so important. What an honour it was to take pictures of these two gentlemen and to listen to their tales and think about all the changes they have witnessed in the past century. The mind boggles!
