Karen Bailey

Karen Bailey is The Land’s markets editor.

She grew up on a mixed farming property in northern NSW and went to university in Queensland where she obtained a degree in agricultural science with honours.

After an initial working stint in the Sydney CBD, including a role as market analyst with Meat and Livestock Australia, Karen found herself on the city's agricultural outskirts 10 years ago when she joined The Land to take charge of the markets section.

In the years since, she has travelled to saleyards from Inverell to Albury and everywhere in between, documenting price spikes, slumps and the occasional outrageous stock agent gossip.

Outside of work, Karen is a keen gardener and has travelled a number of times to New Zealand, where she spends as much time looking at farms and livestock as she does the snow-capped mountains.

She also takes a keen interest in her family’s Santa Gertrudis and Brangus studs near Gunnedah.
