AN era of more than 100 years of farming came to an end last week for the Wilkinson family, Brookton.
The Wilkinson family have farmed the property east of Brookton since 1906 but a decision by Kym and Fleur Wilkinson to move to Perth brought a close to the family's association with the district.
Mr Wilkinson gave a warm welcome to the crowd in attendance before the sale and said he hoped the machinery up for grabs would work as well for buyers as it had for him.
There were plenty of sundries and plant gear, but it wasn't until the Landmark selling team got to the machinery line-up that things really got down to business.
Proving nothing - not even a sweaty humid day - could hold him back, Landmark auctioneer Tiny Holly was flamboyant as ever when he got to the serious end of the catalogue managing to secure bids over $200,000 for multiple green and gold items after sharing the selling of the first 200 lots with Landmark Corrigin representative James Culleton.
The crowd well and truly went quiet when a 239kW (320hp) 2015 model John Deere 8320R FWA tractor (1600 hours) with a 50km/h IVT transmission, TPL and cab suspension, was put up for sale.
The bids reached $225,000 before the tractor was hammered down to a Morawa-based producer.
Also achieving the $200,000-plus mark was a 354kW (475hp) 2008 model John Deere 9530 4WD tractor on triples, complete with a full weight kit, hi-flow hydraulics and HID lights, that sold for $205,000 to a bidder from Belmont.
The big ticket item of the day went to a new home in Tarwonga, for a John Deere 2011 model 9770 combine harvester (2691 engine hours, 2139 rotor hours), with 640D 12.2m (40ft) front and eight wheel comb trailer.
It was sold for an undisclosed amount to Bill and Tom Piesse.
A John Deere 635F 10.6m (35ft) flex-front with an eight wheel comb trailer went for a tidy sum of $47,000 while a John Deere 2007 model 4995 hay mower with John Deere ATU200 and 5.4m (18ft) sickle front on a six wheel comb trailer and 1600 litre spray tank, reached a top bid of $50,000 but was passed-in after failing to meet the reserve.
There was also a home-made 25 tonne chaser bin painted to match the rest of the green and gold fleet which went for a final bid of $40,000.
A Bourgault 16.3m (54ft) 2008 model 5710 bar went for $55,000 while a 2004 model Bourgault 5300 air seeder bin with dual fans and camera kicked off at $15,000 but was pushed to $25,000.
A 30.5m (100ft) Hydra Boom boomsprayer (2004 model) with a 5000 litre tank and John Deere controller, went to Trayning for $34,000 after the first bid was taken at $20,000.
An Imants 2009 model 57SX 4.5m (15ft) spader with spare parts included, was passed-in despite bidders topping out at $65,000, while a 8.5m (28ft) Agroplow deep ripper, including spare parts, attracted a top bid of $18,000 from a local farmer.
A single steer 1979 Inter Acco six wheel V6 GM with Allison auto and an 5.4m tipping tray, made $15,500 and a Marshall Multispread 880T (extended to 10 tonne), went to Quairading for $23,500.
A DE Engineers 15t seed cleaner, with wheat, canola and barley screens, failed to sell after it reached a top bid of $14,000 but a 40t Cole auger made $10,000, a fertiliser conveyor went for $5500 and old chaser bins made between $200-$500.
Other items to move quickly included a 45t field bin ($10,000); a forklift ($14,000); a pressure cleaner ($1000); a 800 litre slide-on fire-fighter unit ($1700) and an old 1996 model Chamberlain 306 tractor ($2500).
Two fuel tanks on stands went for $7000 and $600 respectively, welders returned values between $10-$1200, air compressors sold between $10-$650 and two generators made $500 and $800 respectively.
Various lots of poly culvert pipes made $10-$650, while steel culvert pipes attracted $20 a lot and various lengths of steel made between $50-$220, while angle and square iron sold between $10-$180.
Other items included an assortment of tyres ($5-$150); a go-kart ($650); castor wheels ($30-$40); wire cables ($5-$30) and Sunbeam shearing heads ($350-$450).
