THE Commercial Egg Producers Association of WA (CEPA) is urging consumers to buy WA laid eggs this
Christmas, to support WA egg producers and ensure eggs bought are of the highest quality and freshness.
With cooking and baking delicious meals and desserts high on most people's agenda for the festive season,
there is no better way to celebrate than to ensure that the basic ingredients are of the highest quality
possible.
CEPA President, John Simpson, commented that it is vital that consumers are aware that not all eggs are of
the same quality and freshness.
"With Eastern States based egg companies trucking their eggs across the Nullabor, consumers should be
aware that eggs from WA are the freshest, and have a lower carbon footprint given that it is a shorter
journey from farm gate to supermarket," said Mr Simpson.
“Eggs, like most fresh foods, are a perishable product, which is why it is so important that the freshest
product is selected while at the supermarket.
"With such a selection of eggs at the supermarket to choose from, it is rather difficult for consumers to
distinguish WA laid eggs from imported Eastern States ones. Added to this is the fact that generic branded
eggs do not have state of origin information on the cartons.
"CEPA encourages consumers to read the label and make sure that they are purchasing WA laid eggs. This
will help ensure they will not only have the freshest eggs, but will also be supporting the WA egg producer.
“High in protein, delicious in appetizers, mains and of course desserts, eggs are hard to beat.
"Christmas is all about celebrating life, what better way to celebrate it than to share a delicious recipe
made with fresh scrumptious eggs, with the ones we love," concluded Mr Simpson.
