FARMCARE WA is setting dates for Contract Applicator Courses for commercial spray operators working in either broadacre or forestry areas. Successful completion of this course leads to issue of the Full Pest Control Operator Licence by the Health Department of WA. The course, a live-in program during four and a half days at Springhill Training Retreat in Northam, is extremely comprehensive, covering: pUnderstanding the label. pInsect pests and plant diseases. pFungicides, insecticides and herbicides. pLegislation and WA Health Department requirements. pSpraying techniques with practical demonstrations. pLegal aspects of contract spraying. pPersonal protection. pStorage and disposal of pesticides. According to Farmcare WA co-ordinator Terry O'Beirne, it is crucial for spray operators to undertake the Contract Applicator's Course in the interests of everyone on the land. The first Contract Applicators Course for forestry spray work is scheduled to run from November 22 to 26, 1999, with a further forestry course planned in February/March 2000. Two courses for broadacre spray operators are planned in February and March, 2000. To register for these courses contact Terry O'Beirne on phone/fax 9341 5325 or email: ÿ
