Desalination plant for Pilbara
THE West Australian government has announced it will build a new desalination plant – the fourth such taxpayer-funded facility – to boost water supplies in the state's arid Pilbara region.
Premier Colin Barnett said the plant would cost about $370 million and be built by 2013, The Australian Financial Review reports.
Falling cyclonic rainfall in the region and growing demand has prompted the move.
