FORMER National party member Max Trenorden will run as an independent at the next state election.
And he hopes to be running alongside fellow Nationals WA party member Phillip Gardiner.
The two may potentially start their own party called the Food Security Party depending on Mr Gardiner's decision, expected in days.
Mr Trenorden had told Farm Weekly previously that he would consider running as an independent at the March election if the issues with Tier 3 rail were not resolved.
Last week he announced officially that he would run as an independent but told Farm Weekly he would prefer to run on the same ticket as Mr Gardiner.
"My greatest motivation is to run as a team with Mr Gardiner and he has a few family things he wants to consider but I hope he can make a decision later this week," Mr Trenorden said.
"Tier 3 and the general state of agriculture is the main reason for me running.
"I just had a phone call from a farmer out of Albany asking how can you have a 350 page Federal Government document saying we are going to make a fortune out of selling food to Asia and then refuse to sell them meat. How does that work?
"There is a lot of people concerned about the general state of agriculture and where it is heading."
Mr Gardiner has been a close friend of Mr Trenorden through their time in parliament and he admitted he was disappointed in the way Mr Trenorden was dealt with by Nationals.
"I felt so dismayed that Mr Trenorden wasn't the number one on the ticket based on merit," Mr Gardiner said.
"He understands politics and he understands what needs to be done."
Mr Gardiner said he was considering his political future and would make a decision by the end of next week.
He has been a strong advocate for multi-peril crop insurance and Tier 3 rail.
