FORMER Nationals WA party member Max Trenorden and current Nationals member Philip Gardiner will today meet with members of the Wheatbelt Railway Retention Alliance (WRRA) to discuss whether or not to run as independents at the next State election.
Mr Trenorden told Farm Weekly he would run as an independent for the Seat of the Central Wheatbelt at the March 9 election, if the Nationals WA party would not push harder for the retention of Tier 3 rail.
Mr Trenorden and Mr Gardiner will meet with farmers and WRRA members in Narembeen at midday today to discuss whether they are happy with the representation from the Nationals on the Tier 3 issue.
He said if farmers were happy with the representation then the pair were unlikely to run, but would run as independents if they were not.
Mr Gardiner was unavailable for comment due to meetings, but had told Farm Weekly previously he was considering his options and would make a decision soon.
It is believed Mr Gardiner will make a decision following the meeting in Narembeen after he finds out what the support is like from farmers in the area.
