WHEATBELT buyers were out in force on the back of an excellent season at last week's Trevino on-property ram sale at Southern Cross to ensure a strong result for the stud.
Strong buying support throughout the sale from 21 registered buyers on the line-up of 80 Poll Merino rams resulted in all being sold under the hammer to a top of $2000 and an average of $1049, which was up $217 on last year's sale.
Elders stud stock representative Kevin Broad said it was a strong sale and an outstanding result for the Panizza family to average more than $1000.
"The good season in the area and producer confidence in the sheep and wool industry showed through in their buying during the sale," Mr Broad said.
"The sale was well supported by regular buyers and there were two or three volume buyers who helped contribute to a 100 per cent clearance being achieved.
"The rams presented well once again and were all well over the 100kg mark."
It didn't take long for the $2000 top price to be achieved when lot two went under the hammer.
The upstanding son of Collinsville Regal created a flurry of interest before being knocked down to the Grass Valley stud, Northam.
Mr Broad, who classes for Grass Valley, said they chose the ram for its bloodline.
"We want to start a new family in the stud and we have been impressed by what we have seen coming through from this sire," Mr Broad said.
"He is a square ram with a good, medium, white wool."
The upstanding sire weighed in at 112kg and had current wool figures of 20.5 micron, 3.0 SD, 14.6 CV and 99.7pc comfort factor."
Grass Valley also purchased another Collinsville Regal son at $1400.
Westonia buyers DL & M Le Moignan operated at the top end of the sale.
They averaged $1550 across four rams, which included the sale's $1900 second top price ram.
Moorine Rock producers TL & JM Pope weren't afraid to bid up either.
They purchased six sires to a top of $1700 and an average of $1367.
Also bidding up strongly was Gilba Downs, Southern Cross, which purchased five sires to a $1300 top twice, while M & PI Borona, Moorine Rock, secured four at an $1125 average.
The volume buyer in the sale taking home 16 sires was return buyer W Capelli & Sons, Moorine Rock.
The operation paid to a top of $950 and an average of $813 for its selections.
Fellow return buyers P & A Alvaro, Merredin, were also chasing numbers and secured an even dozen rams to a top of $1500 and secured another three at $1000, to average $971 across the team.
Rounding out the larger buyers was regular buyers J & M Alvaro, who purchased eight sires to a top of $1400 (twice) and an $1106 average.
Trevino stud principal Peter Panizza said they were extremely happy with the sale result and thanked all bidders and underbidders for their continued support.
"Also we must thank the Elders staff members for their continued support and work in the set up of the sale every year," he said.
