THE Gingin abattoir is expected to reopen today.
Issues with the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) in regards to a hidden debt to the property were still being worked through, but the issues with Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) had been resolved and the abattoir would be able to begin working domestically.
Mr Burton has told Farm Weekly previously the abattoir would process up to 900 small stock a day.
The abattoir should bring some much needed competition into the sheep and goat markets following the closure of other small stock abattoirs such as Geraldton Meat Exports, Beaufort River Meats and Hillside Meats.
Mr Burton will use the abattoir and boning room for his product Kimberley Free Range Beef and has plans to open an abattoir facility in the Shire of Derby.
He already has a pilot abattoir on his property, Kilto station, in the Shire of Broome.
