KALGOORLIE Labor candidate Terrence Winner did not respond to Farm Weekly's questions at the time of going to print but in previous statements said he was honoured to be a member of WA Labor leader Mark McGowan's team.

"My grandfather was the first Mayor of the City of Kalgoorlie- Boulder," Mr Winner said.

"He taught me the value of giving back to the community and of hard work and caring for others."

Mr Winner is the current chief executive of the Eastern Goldfields YMCA in Kalgoorlie and said the town needed programs to engage young people and better services for remote communities.

"The Barnett-Grylls government is focused on the wrong priorities and monuments in Perth CBD," he said.

"I believe we need better services in our region and I'm ready to take up this fight for our area."
