HOOCHERY Distillery and RB Dessert Seed company operator Kalyn Dessert-Fletcher has been recognised as one of Business Women's Australia's (BWA) 2016 Women on the Rise.
Ms Dessert-Fletcher was one of three women nominated for the award at the BWA's Women on the Rise event held in Perth earlier this month.
Other nominees included Halo Communications director Alison Balch and Crisp Copy director Jay Crisp Crow.
The function recognised the talents of emerging business leaders.
This award capped off a year of wins for Ms Dessert-Fletcher, who was also the WA winner of the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation's Rural Women's Award.
Hoochery Distillery produces award-winning liqueurs and rum while RB Dessert Seed Co is a wholesale seed production business that produces a wide range of forage crops, herbs and vegetables.
Ms Dessert-Fletcher said while agriculture was historically a male-dominated industry she had not experienced gender stereotyping in her career.
"In the Kimberley the challenges are so immense that it doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman, gender can't even become an issue," she said.
"The remoteness, cost, heat, isolation are all so large but on the flip side those are potential opportunities.
"I think that's the biggest thing that is overlooked - people looking at investing in northern Australia in how you can turn these challenges into an opportunity."
