Livestock carrier expands to Esperance

The first stage is an investment of about $800,000 on a new 27.5 m B Triple to service the area.

"Mitchell's have been around for 70 years and for around 40 years we have transported cattle to and from Esperance," company chief executive officer John Mitchell said.

"We have associations with many producers in the beef industry in the region and therefore we are hoping to better service those customers by being based locally."

Esperance Livestock Transport will be an Esperance-based business.

"It is important to me personally that we become part of the Esperance community, our intention is to be successful in terms of service, efficiency, animal welfare and safety," he said.

"The trailers are our own unique design and have been tested by using the most sophisticated methods to ensure they are safer than any other vehicle of its class.

"Mitchells has other similar units in our fleet in covering over 4 million kilometres safely.

"These vehicles have a great track record in transporting high-value, grainfed cattle.

"We decided to expand because of our customers; we currently have in the area can be serviced better if we are local and we believe we can provide a strong and secure option to producers in the area.

"It will benefit producers with increased capacity and choice of configurations and unlimited access to the entire State."

Steve Crawford, who has more than 20 years experience transporting cattle in the Esperance area, has joined the team.

"Depending on demand and level of support, we are planning to grow to a size that can service our customers knowing we have access to a large fleet," Mr Mitchell said.
