MEMBERS of the Northam Men’s Shed will soon be able to enjoy their new shed and home-base, thanks to a grant from Lotterywest.
The concrete foundations for the 20x9m shed were put down last week and the group expect the building to be completed over the next month.
The Men’s Shed received just over $46,000 from Lotterywest for the building of the new shed, as well as $500 from the Commonwealth Bank for tools and equipment once the shed is in use.
The new building will boast a welding and metalwork area, space for restoration of machinery, a woodwork area and kitchen.
It is a vast improvement on the space currently occupied by the group and Men’s Shed president Bob Sims hopes the new shed will encourage more men to join and enjoy the facilities.
“We’ve currently got about 40 members but we hope the men of Northam will join in now we’ve got the new shed,” he said.
“We want to organise workshop days, and be able to teach those who want to learn things like woodwork and welding.”
