Truck dealers desperate

WA TRUCK dealers are desperately trying to source grain trucks in the eastern states following a stock shortage as farmers gear for this harvest.

According to Max Winkless Volvo dealer principal Mike Branson used stocks have been cleaned out and body builders cannot cope with demand.

³We¹ve got (new) trucks but we can¹t get bodies,² he said. ³So we¹re buying second hand trucks over east.

³Anything we can get we will sell.²

Mr Branson said demand started in August as farmers became confident of good crop prospects.

³Everybody started to get serious and we¹ve experienced a lot of farmer activity in the last two months,² he said.

³In fact the three field days at Dowerin, Newdegate and Mingenew have been our best in terms of inquiry for 32 years.

³We sold a truck off the stand at Expo with strong prospects on the other model we brought up.

³It certainly has been our best ever Expo.²
