WESFARMERS Insurance has contracted Carbon Conscious to plant 26,000 trees in Western Australia to offset annual carbon emissions.
Listed group Carbon Conscious will plant mallee eucalypts on farm land as part of a carbon offset deal, The Australian Financial Review reports.
They will be planted to most effectively reduce salinity and wind erosion, the Subiaco-based environment company said.
A spokeswoman for Wesfarmers said: "We are pleased to be a part of a program where Carbon Conscious [is] planting trees in many of the regional areas where our business operates."
The trees will store carbon for 30 years under a maintenance agreement with the carbon offset company.
