IF it's high-marbling, well-grown weaners you are looking for, then graziers and lotfeeders need look no further than the Landmark Boyanup weaner sale where 800 Angus will be penned.
The sale is scheduled on Wednesday, January 23, at 1pm and the total yarding of 1200 head will come from a large percentage of local producer's first drafts.
Several lines will be weaned and cattle producers will also be presented with a golden opportunity to restock with quality, young breeding females.
Landmark South West livestock manager Darren Chatley said the sale would feature blacks and would follow the success of the 2000 Angus weaners which Landmark sold last week in Mt Barker.
"The substantial yarding of Angus will mainly come from South West cattle producers' first draft while many vendors have recently seen the price premiums paid for weaned calves and therefore have followed suit," he said.
"Those on the lookout for quality replacements will not be disappointed as the selection of the heifers are bound to suit all types of breeding operations."
Consigning a large draft of some thick, uniform calves from Karridale, will be Frank Tomasi Nominees, with the operation offering 100 purebred weaned Angus steers.
All calves are derived from the 380-head Angus breeding herd and are sired by Monterey Angus bulls.
The March-drop steers were weaned on December 22 and are expected to average 320kg-380kg.
All the calves offered by the operation have been vaccinated with 5in1, B12, selenium and have been given a mineral drench at weaning.
Frank Tomasi Nominees farm manager Kevin Owen said the local producers who regularly purchased their calves had been very happy with them as they had focused greatly on genetics over the last several years.
"This annual draft, like our previous ones, will suit graziers and lotfeeders," he said.
"They are a solid line of calves and I can assure you they will grow very well and have a docile temperament."
Another smart offering of 100 black weaned steers will come from the Muir family, GD Muir & Co, Manjimup.
The top quality purebred calves are sired by the family's Mordallup stud Angus bulls and are out of their large herd of commercial Angus females.
The March-drop calves will be weaned at least 10 days prior to the sale and should present at auction in the 320kg to 400kg weight range.
All steers offered by the Muirs have been vaccinated with 7in1 and have been administered with B12 and selenium.
The first annual draft of 120 Angus steers and 30 Angus heifers will be up for the taking when offered by Silverlands stud farms, Bridgetown.
The sappy, black weaners will be presented seven to 10 days weaned and are sired by Mordallup Angus stud bulls and are expected to average 260kg to 300kg.
These well-muscled steers and feminine heifer weaners come from a large herd of 400 purebred Angus females and at eight-months-old have been vaccinated with 7in1.
Sending in a draft of 40 well-grown, sound conformation Angus steer weaners will be Ed Russell, E & C Russell, Bridgetown.
The Russell's March-drop calves have been mostly sired by Mordallup Angus bulls and should present for sale in the 320kg to 350kg weight range.
The black steers will be some of the heavier weaner drafts at auction and have been weaned two weeks prior to sale making them ideal for the local trade market.
All the Russell family's heifers are often retained and sold PTIC in January through the Landmark Specially Selected Breeders sale.
Other vendors to put forward soft, easy-fleshing weaners are RJ & AP Wheatley, Bridgetown, who will present 120 mixed-sex Angus calves, while JD & S Karafilis, Bridgetown, will have 30 black steers and 30 black heifers up for grabs.
Offering a quality line-up of 60 mixed-sex calves of the Angus breed will be Bridgetown producer G & J Clarke and S Friend, Waroona, will have two smaller but uniform drafts of 25 Murray Grey steers and 25 heifers.
