A CAREFULLY timed and targeted first try at national online cattle sales paid off handsomely last Friday for agents Elders Broome and Kimberley clients Peter and Cheryl Camp, Camp Cattle Co, Kalyeeda station.
The annual turnout on the 122,000 hectare station east of Broome and south of Derby, between the Fitzroy River and Great Sandy Desert, saw a total of 1867 Brahman and Droughtmaster-Brahman cross spayed heifers and steers sold on AuctionsPlus.
The cattle, aged between 12 and 26 months and between 80 and 90 per cent vendor bred, were put up online in three lots, feeder heifers, feeder steers and steers, to strong bidding.
They were in good condition, presented well and achieved prices well above the set reserves, ranging from $1019.58 a head for the heifers to $1243.31 for the steers. All of the cattle are now destined for live export.
The first lot of 764 feeder heifers aged 18 to 26 months ranged from 285-370kgs live weight, averaged 318.5kg live and were assessed at 149.7kg dressed and with 97 per cent fat score 2.
Elders assessor Brian McGlinchey noted they "would be ideal for export to Indonesia or to feedlot as they are very good doers".
They sold at $1019.58 a head, an average of 320.1 cents per kilogram live weight.
The middle lot of 695 feeder steers aged 12 to 24 months ranged in weight from 285-370kg, averaged 329.7kg live and were assessed at 155kg dressed with 86 per cent fat score 2.
"These steers are in good store to forward store condition going ahead on good green feed and would be a great acquisition for anyone looking for quality steers," Mr McGlinchey noted.
They sold at $1112.07 a head, an average of 337.3c/kg live.
The final Kalyeeda lot of 408 steers aged 15 to 26 months ranged in weight from 371-470 kgs, averaged 407.9kg live and were
