THE Elders special June appraisal cattle sale on Friday saw a yarding of 1300 cattle presented to buyers.
While a good crowd was in attendance, it consisted of less genuine buyers than the liveweight sale the week before.
Quality varied with a wider range of age and weights, with smaller cattle not as well-supported as well-grown types and of a suitable weight.
The female section of the sale was the feature, with both unmated heifers and cows and calves receiving the strongest support.
First-cross, bucket-reared heifers sold to very strong demand, reaching $1150, with even very small cattle making $500 to $800.
One of the bigger selections of cows and calves seen for some time was also a strong drawcard for buyers, with the 50 cattle from one vendor selling strongly.
These had excellent quality and well grown calves at foot and sold to a high of $1360.
The older dairy steers sold to good demand, with the in between size range barely holding recent values.
The poddie size calves though, attracted strong support to sell to recent good values.
