Quality line-up set for Boyanup sale

Like previous sales, a feature of the yarding will be the large offering of young dairy steers, which are ready to go out into the paddock and grow.

Elders Busselton representative Clint Gartrell said the September store sale presented the perfect opportunity to purchase quality stock coming into the spring period.

“With good weather around the corner and 800 head to choose from, including large lines of Friesian steers, these cattle will provide a great investment to any farming operation,” Mr Gartrell said.

“We will have some excellent lines of younger appraisal Friesian steers coming in from regular vendors and some well-grown liveweight Friesian steers.

“The offering of beef cattle will be small but there will be some select lines of beef steers and heifers.”

Dairy steers will make up the majority of the yarding and HY Armstrong, Burekup, will offer the largest draft in these pens.

This month the operation’s offering will consist of 48 black and white steers aged 10-12 months and 32 head in the 3-4-month-old age bracket.

Another major vendor in the Friesian lanes will be Karridale producers CW & YR Elson, who has nominated 40 black and whites in the 10-12mo age range.

Newbrook Investments, Metricup, will also offer 40 Friesian steers at the older end of the age scale.

The steers are 20-22mo and were bought in as poddies from previous store sales and grown out.

Other bigger lines in the 12-18mo age bracket will come from H Hansman, Nannup, who will present 36 black and whites (16-18mo) and Ferguson Hills Estate, Ferguson, which will truck in 25 head (14-16mo) and 12 head (12-14mo).

There will be a good run of young, poddie Friesian steers on offer from a range of regular vendors.

Tutunup operation Negus Enterprises will truck in its monthly draft of 35 Friesian steers aged 4-6mo which have been dehorned and had all health treatments.

Another regular monthly vendor West & Haggerty, Capel, will offer a large line of poddies when it trucks in 32 steers aged 3-4mo.

The steers are all owner-bred and have had all the work done meaning they are ready to go out in the paddock and grow.

They have been drenched, vaccinated and dehorned.

Busselton operation Kingsley McSwain will have numbers in the poddie pens, with 30 dehorned steers aged 8-10mo, while. DLP Farming, Waroona, has nominated 32 head (8-10mo).

They range in age from 12-16mo, are sired by Blackrock Angus bulls and are owner-bred bred out of the Milner family’s dairy.

The top end of the offering will weigh 450kg plus and will be offered liveweight and the rest will be sold appraisal.

In the beef line-up, Dardanup operation Depiazzi Agricultural Co will be one of the bigger vendors when it offers a run of 40 Angus heifers.

The heifers are 14-16mo and are based on Blackrock, Koojan Hills and Monterey bloodlines.

Elders Boyanup agent Mal Barrett said the heifers were in store condition and expected to weigh 270-320kg.

“They have been running on old irrigation pastures and would be ideal for fattening,” he said.

Also offering some classy black beauties will be Summerfield Stud, Brunswick, which has nominated 33 Angus heifers.

The owner-bred heifers are 16-18mo, based on Monterey bloodlines and will weigh 350-400kg.

Other vendors to offer numbers in the beef run include Noonegine Estate, Manjimup, which will present 24 Angus and Murray Grey calves (12 steers and 12 heifers) aged 8-10mo, while ED & JS Hoddell, Collie, has nominated 20 Charolais cross (10 steers and 10 heifers), which are 16-18mo and owner-bred.
