BROWNES Dairy set off on a trip across the desert last Sunday, making a stand against Eastern States imported dairy products.
As part of the Brownes 'Use-By-Date' campaign, consumers who took empty tubs of imported yoghurt to selected locations around the State were given a Brownes yoghurt product.
The empty containers were then loaded on a truck to give back to the Eastern States.
Brownes managing director Ben Purcell said he had been overwhelmed with the show of support from WA consumers.
"We have had a huge response, not only from consumers, but also from people in the WA dairy industry, other WA-based businesses and farmers," he said.
Mr Purcell said most WA consumers cared about supporting local business and part of the Brownes 'Use-By-Date' campaign was about raising awareness of the issues faces by the WA dairy industry.
"But more importantly, it has given our farmers something to smile about, and it has been worth it just for that," he said.
"WA dairy farmers have had so many tough years, this has given them a good news story for once."
According to Mr Purcell this was just the beginning of the fight to make WA dairy a sustainable industry.
Mr Purcell drove the truck from Perth, through the South West, stopping along the way to collect more empty containers, and hoped to arrive in Melbourne by Friday.
