THERE was more than a touch of summer in the air as buyers and sellers assembled at Narrogin for the last scheduled sheep sale of the year, with the top price of $20.20 being paid by GM & EL Ward for a line of Performance-Bred September-shorn wether lambs from Waycott Estate. The top-priced ewes were a line of Fern Park blood 3.5yos, in great order even though they produced 95 per cent lambs this year, offered as a part of a flock reduction sale by KM Pauley & Co and selling to Elders Cranbrook office for $17.60. The 4.5 and 5.5yo ewes from KM Pauley & Co also met keen demand, with the younger ones selling to RF & PL O'Brien for $15.20, and the other line going to RTC, Narrogin, for $11.60. Elders auctioneer Graeme Alexander, Narrogin, was very happy with the result, a reflection of the increased competition that saw prices lift $2/head over previous offerings. He thought the result was probably because it was the last scheduled sale of the year and the first stubbles becoming available in the region as farmers started to harvest an increased area of crop. All wether lambs attracted keen bidding, with the 265 "tops" from CJ & MG Browne's Jindalee blood wethers going to GM & EL Ward, Wagin, for $19, with the 166 younger and smaller tail selling to RTC for $15. A line of 244 Trehaven blood wether lambs from C & M Webb helped keep the average up, being knocked down to CR Wise, Katanning, for $18.20, while the only line of young wethers on offer, 180 Lewisdale blood 1.5yos from Dutarning Pty Ltd, were sold to RTC Narrogin for $18.20 after some spirited bidding. The three lines of 1.5yo ewes attracted keen interest, with Ken Ashworth buying 207 Jindalee blood ewes from J & P Browne for $17, having already paid $15.20 for the 263 Performand-Bred ewe lambs offered by Wayscott Estate. The other lines of 1.5yos < 105 Bruluc-blood ewes from TB Doney & Co < sold to RF & PL O'Brien for $16.20, while the 304 Lewisdale-blood March-shorn ewes from Dutarning Pty Ltd sold to Elders Wagin for $15.20. ÿ
