IN spite of the miserable weather and fear of roads being cut before cattle could be transported to buyers' properties, the Elders Boyanup store cattle sale last Friday saw another strong result for the offering of 1171.
Possibly a wider variation of quality was evident, with some outstanding cattle offered, while the younger dairy types were showing the greater effect of summer.
Comparison with other recent sales show an almost identical return for vendors when beef steers topped at $1555 and 384c/kg.
Heifers once again pipped them with a top of 400c/kg and a top of $1538.
Beef cross steers reached $1540 and 308c/kg while Friesian steers saw a high of $1606 and 268c/kg.
Mated cows, generally up to sixth calf, sold to $2250 while cows and calves made to a top of $3025 and mated heifers sold to $2080.
The sale started with nine Angus steers weighing 502kg from RG McKnight and these sold for the top of $1555 to Harvey Beef Farms (HBF) when selling at 310c/kg.
Semini Enterprises were strong on the day, paying $1410 for the next pen of McKnight calves at 316c/kg.
A total of 10 weighing 455kg from L & M Ierace were then added at $1457 and 320c/kg.
A line of 18 black steers weighing 426kg offered by Fraser Trust, Boyup Brook, also went to Semini at 338c/kg to return $1441.
The best of the steers from BJ Feutril, Vasse, made $1375 when Greg Jones bid to 250c/kg for the 550kg steers.
Acton Park Grazing saw its steers reach $1406 and 338c/kg while another 10 sold for $1402, with Willowbank, Benger, buying both pens.
Avenlea Grazing sold two pens of quality Murray Grey steers with the first eight making $1552 when Greg Jones paid 316c/kg for the 491kg steers.
Semini Enterprises snapped up the next eight averaging 434kg for $1451 and 334c/kg.
Selling numbers were
MJ & CH Bleechmore, Boyup Brook, their first pen of 16 Charolais steers weighing 372kg made $1251 at 336c/kg when bought by volume buyer Welldon Beef, Williams.
A pen of 15 light Murray Grey steers weighing 251kg, topped at 384c/kg when Elders Brunswick/Harvey representative Alex Roberts paid $965 for them.
Beef heifers continued on their merry way with a top of 400c/kg paid for 10 Angus weighing 384kg that cost
MJ & HE Harris, Paradise, $1538 when sold by G & S Batley & Son, Busselton.
Another 10 from the Batleys then went to Braeside Farm for $1391 when the 371kg heifers sold at 375c/kg.
Three pens, all holding 14 heifers each from B, D & L Rowe were bought by
Mr Roberts, costing $1105, $1067 and $959 when he bid between 350 to 360c/kg for them.
Five Limousin heifers weighing 434kg sold by G & RM Telini, Dardanup, went to Semini Enterprises for $1363 at 314c/kg.
The next pen of nine weighed 342kg and sold to Welldon Beef for $1129 and 330c/kg.
Two Charolais heifers from Dongora Livestock were bought by HBF with the 447kg heifers selling for $1289 and 288c/kg.
Late in the sale a single heifer from Avenlea Grazing weighing 500kg was bought for Johnson Meats at 270c/kg to cost $1350.
The best of the beef cross steers were two Angus weighing 700kg that were bought for Western Meat Packers (WMP) and they returned $1540 at 220c/kg to S & A Parker.
Another seven weighing 553kg made $1461 when Mr Jones bid to 264ckg.
A smaller than normal run of liveweight Friesian steers saw a single steer weighing 730kg from Hithergreen Park top at $1606, going to WMP at 220c/kg.
Nine sleek steers weighing 618kg from T & IL Noakes, Witchcliffe, were next highest and went Mr Jones for $1447 and 234c/kg.
Mr Jones then added two lines sold by TC & D Ruyter, paying $1379 and $1354 at 235c/kg for the 586 and 576kg steers.
The appraisal beef steers attracted keen bidders the first pen sold, which contained eight steers from D & A Campbell went to T D Credaro at $1015.
Appraisal dairy steers again were red hot, with the first line of eight sold account Dongora Livestock topping at $1155 when bought by Harvey Fresh, Harvey.
Another seven from this vendor then sold for $1075, also bought by Harvey Fresh.
Two lines from D & S Ovens sold for $1030 to Landmark Brunswick agent Errol Gardiner with another eight making $1020 when bought by T McGregor, Yoongarillup.
Vince Versaci, Harvey, sold six for $1000 and was one of the several pens bought by Gralyn Estate, Yallingup.
A heavy Murray Grey mated heifer sold by Young Guns, Hyden, went to Elders Capel representative Rob Gibbings costing $2080.
Angus heifers from Willowbank, Benger, saw seven make $1775 and five sell for $2100 when bought by Westcoast Livestock Mt Barker.
The WA College of Agriculture, Harvey sold Angus cows and calves with the top pen of 11 selling for $3025, while two lines of 10 made $2875 and $2900, with Mr Gibbings taking the three pens.
Murray Grey mated cows from Young Guns saw four make $2250 and four more sold at $2150, when both were purchased by MR Nieuwenhuyze.
