VENDORS are to be commended on presenting a magnificent penning of first cross females at the Landmark Manjimup F1 Female Sale last week with the cattle in ideal condition for calving.
A small but dedicated number of mainly local buyers attended to compete strongly on the cattle of their choice, with 22 of the buyers registered successful purchasers.
This year buyers had added security with all females ear notched negative for BVDV.
A total of 240 females were offered and sold to a top price of $3300 twice to record a gross of $657,200 and average $2738.
The first 10 pens sold averaged $3044.
This compares with the 2015 sale when 183 were offered and sold to $3000 for a gross of $499,600 and surprisingly averaged only eight dollars less at $2730.
Buyers appreciated the growth and volume of the heifers presented and commented on the ideal condition for trouble-free calving.
Angus cross heifers dominated the numbers and also took top-priced honours of $3300.
This figure was paid twice for pens containing six heifers in each and sold by AJ & WJ Ryan & Co.
The first pen was knocked down to BJ & FH Tomas, Cundinup, and the second six were purchased by GA & MB Clarke, Marbellup.
Both are repeat buyers at this sale with the Tomas family going on to buy four pens at the sale.
Another two pens of six heifers cost $3000 with the fourth line selling for $2900 with all heifers from the AJ & WJ Ryan & Co offering.
The Ryan draft had the added attraction of being scanned, giving a closer calving spread.
Mr Clarke said he was was pleased with his purchase of one top pen every year and would be back at the Manjimup fixture next year.
Purchaser of quality LE & EF Brookes, Yornup, took the first two lines of six heifers from JC & LW Ryan & Sons, with both pens of roomy females costing $3200, setting values early in the sale.
Renowned for always presenting quality, AM & BJ Eatts again offered feminine animals resulting in the first six going to N & M Terrigno for $2900 with the next seven heifers bought by BR & TL Styles for $2800.
The last of the Eatts heifers sold for $2650, bought by regular local buyer Dehaan & Son.
The next pens of JC Ryan heifers were also synchro AI mated and backed up with a Black Simmental bull with these going to GR Lee, Nannup, at $2900.
F Pessotto & Sons paid the same price for another seven.
Jock Embry, Landmark Margaret River, held buyers cards for different clients and was active during the sale.
Cattle purchased included seven heifers from AJ Ryan for $2500, going to JE Franklyn, Margaret River. Another strong bidder, GB & JA Ross, Denmark, then paid $2600 for seven Ryan heifers.
Making only a small dent on their requirements, OM Dunnett & Co, Nannup, purchased the one line of eight heifers for $2800, sold account IA & HE Noakes.
Jock Embry secured the next pen of these for clients MF & MA Hutton, paying $2700 before adding a pen from JC Ryan for the same price.
Also heading to Denmark were six JC Ryan heifers at $2500 and seven from AJ Ryan at $2600.
Another buyer travelling from the South Coast was BL & SJ Nairn who bought seven at $2800 and a small line of three for $2700 with both pens from AJ Ryan.
Jabenco Trust paid $2500 for seven AJ Ryan heifers as did G & I Young.
Jock Embry also bought heifers for Mirreanda Pty Ltd, Vasse, bidding to $2500.
Jubilee Farms, Donnybrook, paid $2650 for a pen of six JC Ryan Angus heifers while M & L Herceg bought eight sold by AJ Ryan for $2450.
An impressive line of Montbelliarde Friesian- Angus cross heifers from Kelly Brae, Gelorup, filled the sale ring and after extended bidding sold to local cattlemen F Pessotto & Sons for $3050.
The nine heifers were synchro AI mated to a Carenda Angus bull.
With all of their breeders being Murray Grey cross bar two, G & K Nicolaou & Son, Manjimup, saw off all competitors to buy all the Murray Grey heifers offered at the sale by Keith Gibellini costing $2800 for eight and $2700 for another five.
A single growthy heifer sold by JC & LW Ryan joined these at $2750 and AJ & WJ Ryan sold a line of six to D & MC Bevan, for $2500.
