THE name may have changed to Gandy Angus but the quality and breeding of bulls on offer at the stud’s upcoming sale will be the same as always.
Gandy Angus, formerly Diamond Tree Angus, will offer an outstanding selection of 35 rising two-year-old bulls and 35 yearling bulls at its annual bull sale on Friday, February 16, 2018.
The new name heralds a new era for Kim Gandy and family, whose future in stud cattle has been uncertain for the past few years due to an ongoing dispute regarding the family company.
After a protracted negotiation period a recent positive outcome is that the unsold part of the stud herd is now wholly owned by Kim and will now operate as Gandy Angus.
Due to this dispute over the family company it was initially decided to sell the stud.
“In October 2015 we sold 300 dams and gave the purchaser the ‘Diamond Tree’ stud name with the intention that they would carry on the stud,” Kim said.
“But, as the new owner declined to buy our remaining 250 females in early 2016 we found ourselves continuing to run a sizeable stud herd.
“Then in September 2016, we were saddened to learn the new owners would not be continuing with the Diamond Tree stud with their 300 dams and progeny were subsequently dispersed.”
To maintain the value of the herd and to ensure the herd’s ongoing genetic improvement throughout this uncertain period, Kim continued a full AI program using exceptional forefront genetics.
“Our strong base of young females which has been retained are four years old and under and are based on the latest bloodlines,” Kim said.
The sires represented in the upcoming sale include RB Tour of Duty, KCF Bennett Southside, Diamond Tree Bushranger K92, Mohnen Long Haul 502, Plattemere Weigh Up K360, SAV Prosperity 9131, Lawson’s Harvard H205, VAR Generation 2100 and Quaker Hill Dead Center.
“With our clients’ continuing support, we are enthusiastic about breeding and selling bulls well into the future,” Kim said.
An important change to the sale commission structure will be the introduction of a three per cent commission paid to all participating agents.
Sale catalogue preparation is now well underway and further sale details will be released in the new year.
