WANTING weaned beef calves with plenty of quality and weight?
Then make sure you are headed to the Landmark Weaner Sale at Boyanup next week.
The special sale will be held on Wednesday, December 21, kicking off at 1pm and will see the Landmark South West team yard close to 700 quality weaned beef calves.
The sale will feature beef steer and heifer weaners from a range of breeding backgrounds with lines of Shorthorn, Red Angus and Angus calves on offer.
All the calves on offer in the sale have been weaned for a minimum of 10 days prior to the sale day meaning all the work is done for buyers.
Landmark recommends its clients wean their calves in accordance with Meat and Livestock Australia guidelines.
Landmark South West livestock manager Darren Chatley said the quality of weaners on offer would be extremely high and wouldn't disappoint with some big lines from a couple of vendors from long-time weaned sale supporters.
"The cattle will be drafted into weight ranges to suit buyers' requirements," Mr Chatley said.
"The sale will provide an ideal opportunity for lotfeeders, backgrounders and grass fatteners to secure numbers of quality, well-bred, weaned cattle before the Christmas break."
The largest vendor in the sale will be prominent commercial Shorthorn breeders and regular sale vendors Lanstal Pty Ltd, Pinjarra and Esperance, with a draft of 300 Shorthorn steers.
The classy red weaners are from the operation's Esperance property where it is running 2000 breeders.
The March/April-drop calved are based on The Grove bloodlines and come sale day they will have been weaned for more than two weeks.
The draft is expected to weigh between 320 and 380 kilograms.
The line has received all the health treatments including 5in1 twice, as well as a Cydectin drench and Bovilis MH & IBR treatment at weaning.
Matching Lanstal for numbers with their first draft of calves for the season will be Nannup producers Gary and Renae Dickson, GL & RK Dickson.
In the sale the Dickson family will offer 180 Red Angus steers and 120 Red Angus heifers aged nine months.
The majority of calves in the sale will be based on Willandra Red Angus bloodlines, however there will be a small percentage of the draft which will be black and these calves are sired by a Cherylton Angus.
Landmark Boyanup agent Chris Waddingham said the Dicksons ran a top breeding herd and the quality of the calves in the sale was good and would not disappoint.
"The draft will weigh between 300-370kg and will suit a range of buyers," Mr Waddingham said.
Come sale day the these classy calves will have been weaned for nearly a month.
Another regular vendor Southwest Pastoral Co, Pinjarra, will offer 40 Angus steers, aged eight to 10 months.
The steers are the operation's third draft of about 400 young sale cattle to be offered this season.
The January to April-drop calves are based on Mordallup, Diamond Tree and Monterey Angus genetics and will weigh from 350-390kg.
Come sale day these quality black calves will have been weaned for more than three weeks following a six day yard weaning program.
The calves received 5in1, Vitamin B12 and Selenium treatments both at marking and weaning, they were also drenched with Eprimex at weaning.
The calves are renowned for their performance both in the feedlot and on grass.
After a successful sale a couple of weeks ago of their main draft RH Omodei & Son, Pemberton, will offer 30 Angus calves in this sale.
The 15 steers and 15 heifers are aged 9-10mo and based on Diamond Tree bloodlines.
They have been treated with 5in1 at marking and have received a B12 and Selenium treatment.
Rounding out the Angus run will be 40 black calves from JJ & EA Gale, Bridgetown.
These calves are aged 8-10mo and will impress in the pens.
