A MALE alpaca from Victoria's Windsong Valley stud has been sold for a new Australian price record of $150,000.
Winner of the supreme ribbon at the 2008 Royal Melbourne show, Windsong Valley Firedragon attracted international bids but was knocked down to South Australian stud EP Cambridge, Oakbank.
The dispersal of the originally WA-based stud, now located near Ballarat, grossed more than $800,000 for 137 mixed sex alpacas.
After Windsong Valley Firedragon, the second-highest priced male made $44,000 and sold to Ambersun stud, Mt Compass, SA.
Top-priced female, Windsong Valley Firebright - the mother of Windsong Valley Firedragon - made $21,000.
