AS someone once noted, once you get the answer to the question, they change the question.
One of the major changes in canola production has been the advent of RR and hybrid varieties, with Department of Agriculture and Food development officer Jackie Bucat, noting that the response to Nitrogen has not been widely tested for these newcomers.
The Cunderdin trial was based on testing how late an application of N can be made and whether splitting the times of application made any significant difference.
Apart from the control plot with no added N, all trial plots received 10kg of N at seeding, with other applications being made at eight and 12 weeks after sowing (WAS).
Some were treated at eight WAS, some at 12 WAS while others were treated at both times, with results to date showing positive responses to the amount of N applied, but no difference was seen by varying the number of times the N was applied.
