Grain Pool leads the way in new era for wheat

The CBH Group's marketing arm, Grain Pool Pty Ltd, is one of the first companies in Australia to be accredited to export wheat in bulk, after it received confirmation of its accreditation from Wheat Exports Australia this week.

In the new era of deregulation, which began on July 1, exporters must be accredited by WEA in order to export bulk wheat from Australia, a process which involves rigorous analysis of the exporter’s business operations and track record in the industry.

Grain Pool general manager, Brian Mumme, said the accreditation was a significant milestone for Western Australian growers and the grain industry as a whole.

"For the first time in decades, growers will have open competition for their wheat from multiple exporters who are able to determine where and how they ship bulk wheat from Australia," he said.

"A momentous change such as this brings both challenges and opportunities for the industry."

Mr Mumme said the WEA decision meant that Grain Pool was officially "open for business" as a wheat buyer and exporter.
