YIELDS will be slightly above average for Brookton grower Travis Eva, despite some frost damage in his 1100 hectare Scope barley crop.
Travis, pictured with Rhys Eyre who just finished at Mazenod College and is off to Cunderdin ag college next year, farms with wife Amy and parents Ian and Di.
The family cropped 3200 hectares this year, with 400ha of export hay, 400ha wheat, 500ha oats, 180ha lupins, 320ha canola and 1100ha barley.
They also run 3000 Merino-cross sheep.
Travis said while yields would be up, current grain prices meant the family would finish on an average season.
"The canola was above average and just scraped in above two tonne per hectare, the oats are at about 4.5t/ha and just making weight, the wheat went 2.5t/ha with a bit of frost but good protein at H1 and the barley was 3t/ha and went malt, although it's a bit frosted," Travis said.
"At the end of the day it was a bit better than I thought it was going to be but I think that's what most guys are finding about the place, so they've been quite pleased with most of their yields in general.
"Lot of people were expecting the worst - there's frost in the lower areas but up on the hills it's all going well."
