THIS year grower Clint Stanley is on track to beat his five-year yield average and do even better than last year's average of just under two tonne per hectare.
Clint, pictured with wife Morwenna and daughters Imogen (left), 2, and Sienna, 3, on their Goodlands property, 40 kilometres north of Kalanannie, had harvested just over 1100 hectares of his 7400ha cropping program when Farm Weekly visited.
The program is made up of 2400ha Calingiri and 5000ha Mace wheat
"We're yielding 2.6 tonnes per hectare in the Calingiri wheat this year and our five-year average is 1.4t/ha," he said.
"Last year we did just under 2t/ha on average, this year we will do that, maybe a little bit better."
Clint said so far Calingiri was outperforming Mace on yields and proteins.
"Where we started in the Calingiri we were getting high proteins and high yields but then in the Mace we got 2.2t/ha and the protein wasn't that high," he said.
"The Calingiri got mostly ANW1 while Mace is on the border of APW2/ ASW1, so there are some quality issues there."
Frost is having some impact, but Mr Stanley remained optimistic on how the rest of the harvest would go.
"We're getting some frost at the bin and the odd load penalised, but we knew we were going to run into it," he said.
"It but will depend on how low lying the paddock is but we won't complain considering what others further south are facing.
"We just take it with a pinch of salt that it's going to be a good year, but could've been better."
