IT is a real family affair for the Crees family as they band together to harvest 7500 hectares between Merredin and Westonia.
Glenn, pictured with nephew Shaun (left), along with 82-year-old dad Syd, brother Mark and son Kael were all hard at work harvesting when Farm Weekly stopped by last week.
Shaun, Syd and Mark were on the three John Deere headers, with Glenn keeping a brisk pace with the chaser bin.
"We seed separately but at harvest we do it together to utilise all the machinery - it's a bit of mayhem driving the chaser bin and keeping up with them," Glenn said.
The family is about a third of the way through its program - starting at Glenn's farm near Merredin which he farms with wife Kylie - before going to the Westonia property that Mark leases.
The brothers also run more than 4000 Merino sheep between them.
Glenn said so far they were very pleased with the yields.
"The canola was exceptional, averaging two tonnes per hectare which is very pleasing for out here, and our oil content was between 49 to 51 per cent and the oats were at 2.5-3 tonnes per hectare," Glenn said.
"Everything with the barley at my place was good except for the protein and for Mark they've had everything bar the weight but we've still managed to average 2.8t/ha."
The family started in the wheat last week and while they were expecting to see some frost, Glenn said the proteins had been "exceptional".
"We wanted to get the noodles off but they are quite frosted and have a lot of green underneath where it has re-shot - we have to wait for it to dry," he said.
Depending on the 2017 break, Glenn said they would consider increasing their canola planting and potentially upping their oats.
