THE Peel Football League broke the stranglehold of the South West Football League when it won the 2016 Landmark Country Football Championship at Leederville Oval on Sunday afternoon.
The Cavaliers won the Division 1 final by 30 points, ending the South West's bid for a sixth successive championship, kicking 13.6 (84) to 7.12 (54).
Peel was out of the blocks early with four goals and restricted South West to just two points by quarter time.
The defending champions bounced back in the second quarter, shutting down Peel's attack and dominating to go into the major break with a four point lead but this was the only time they looked challenging.
Peel dominated around the ground in the second half to win in convincing fashion.
The Mortlock Football League held off a spirited Eastern Districts to win the Division 2 final by 14 points while South West defeated Great Southern Storm by 16 points in the CBH Colts.
