MORE than 300 students from State primary schools throughout Western Australia entered Agricultural Region MLC Jim Chown's inaugural Design a Christmas Card competition.
The three winners announced last week were Elise Norrish, Year 7, Kojonup District High School; Jaxon Lantkze, Year 3, Gnowangerup District High School, and Logan Purser, Year 2, Moora Primary School.
All State primary schools in the agricultural region were invited to participate in the competition, which asked students to design a Christmas card centred on the theme, "Christmas in My Home Town".
"It's a nice thing to do for kids in rural areas," Mr Chown said.
"They've had a hard year so this is something exciting for them and it's a positive thing for the towns.
"I was overwhelmed with the response, and it's been a pleasure to see the artistic talents of the students from the agricultural region."
The winning entrants had their design printed onto Christmas cards for use by Mr Chown and were presented with a $50 book voucher and a certificate of achievement.
"I also personally invited the three winners to attend a special Christmas lunch at Parliament House in their honour," Mr Chown said.
"As well as the three winners, I have also selected three runners-up, who will receive an arts pack in the mail as representation of their hard work and efforts in designing their entries."
The three runners-up were Sarah Hallcroft, Year 6, Lancelin Primary School; Kelsea Cail, Year 4, Dalwallinu District High School, and Bella Delane, Pre Primary, Koorda Primary School.
These students also had their work published onto Christmas cards this year.
Mr Chown said all the entries would be displayed in his electorate office over the festive season and that anybody interested would be welcome to visit the over the Christmas holidays to view the range of artwork.
