LEADING Perth chefs and retailers joined Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan and horticulture industry leaders for the launch of the 2017 Bravo apple season at the Perth City Farm on Tuesday night.
The apple, over two decades in the making, has been described as exciting new choice for Australian consumers.
The launch provided the perfect opportunity to showcase the striking burgundy apple, currently available in independent retailers and Woolworths stores in WA.
Fruit West executive officer Nardia Stacy said the commercial production of Bravo would increase every year allowing the introduction of this very impressive apple into many more retail outlets.
WA Farm Direct managing director Jenny Mercer, and national supplier of the Bravo apple, was hopeful it would be a turning point for Australian orchardists who had been doing it tough for a long period of time.
"This could really be the start of a brand new industry, which will benefit all Australians.”
The apple was bred by the Department of Agriculture and Food WA as part of a program supported by the State Government and industry.
