MONTEREY Murray Greys and Angus will present 60 specially selected 17-24-month-old bulls at its ninth annual Winter Bull Sale at Brunswick Showgrounds on the Wednesday, May 17.
The selling complex will be sporting new rubber mats in the pens and laneways to and from the selling ring with Monterey stud principal Gary Buller saying it was a welcome new initiative implemented by the sale complex committee.
This year’s sale team has been vaccinated with 7in1, as well as for Vibrio and Pesti.
All bulls have been ear notched negative for BVDV and have been semen tested in the two weeks leading up to the sale.
Those inspecting the bulls in past weeks have commented on the evenness of the bulls and their placid temperaments.
The average statistics for the Monterey Angus sale bulls in April were 21 months of age, 780kg, 116cm2 EMA and 41.3cm for scrotal size (SC).
Presented in ideal condition, they are ready to go straight to work with more than half of the Angus line-up suitable for heifer joining.
There are nine impressive sons of Koojan Hills Unlimited F237 available, including lot four, which weighed in at 1006kg, measuring 137cm2 for EMA and 6.5 IMF on back fats of 8-9mm when scanned in April.
Monterey Far Out has five growthy sons up for offer, including lot three, which has the largest EMA scan of 138cm2 and IMF 6.3, weighing in at 1008kg.
Monterey General also has four well-muscled low birthweight sons in the sale team.
The Murray Grey sale team is particularly impressive with a good balance of growth bulls and light birthweight bulls for heifer joinings.
The average statistic for the greys include an average weight of 771kg, 116cm2 EMA, 41.5cm SC and an average age of 20.5months.
There are some outstanding growth bulls among the Murray Grey offering, including lot 37, which weighs in at 974kg with a measurement of 134cm2 EMA and a modest birthweight EBV of +3.5. Lot 38 is an impressive individual weighing in at 930kg with a measurement of 134cm2 EMA and 5.9 IMF.
A feature of the offering is the five black Murray Grey bulls catalogued.
Lot 32 is a big growthy son of Monterey Hot Shot and weighs 988kg with a very modest birthweight EBV of +3.8.
The top bull price at the 2016 Winter Sale was a black Murray Grey.
