FOLLOWING their best ever bull sale this year, Andrew and Fiona Kuss, Allegria Park Angus stud, Esperance, received an unexpected bonus when it sold a bull privately for an undisclosed price.
The bull was inspected by Black Market Angus stud principal Paul Torrisi, Donnybrook, who ventured to Esperance to attend the Allegria Park on-property bull sale this year, and took the opportunity after the sale to inspect the stud's herd.
A bull in one of the paddocks caught Mr Torrisi's eye and on closer inspection he decided it was good enough to make the family an offer.
The bull, Allegria Park J114, is a Coonamble Elevator son and out of Allegria Park D18.
Mr Kuss said J114 went back to an Ardrossan Wilcoola cow, which was a well-known cow family.
"His mother had perfect feet and good structure," he said.
"We flushed her several times and have always had outstanding results.
"J114 has a great temperament, muscling and good feet."
Mr Kuss said he was happy to see J114 go to Black Market stud, which would be able to use the bull to make an impact.
"We also have a full sister to his dam, so there is a fair bit of the bloodline throughout our herd," he said.
"While we have used him in the stud, use on a larger scale would have been limited."
J114 had Breedplan figures of +6.9 for birthweight, +58 for 200-day weight, +108 for 400-day weight and +147 for 600-day weight.
Mr Torrisi said the purchase was brokered by Richard Hall, who consults to Allegria Park and Black Market.
"J114 is a typical growth Elevator son," he said.
"He has great temperament, is a large and deep sire with excellent feet."
Mr Torrisi said he had used Coonamble genetics in his stud herd, including Elevator bloodlines, and J114 will be used as a back-up bull in an AI and ET program.
