DESPITE heat wave conditions, with the mercury hitting over 42°C, a crowd of close to 300 people attended the G4 Partners (Grosskopf family) clearing sale conducted by Landmark Wongan Hills on the property just south of Yerecoin.
Landmark auctioneer Grant Lupton said prior to the sale that he was hopeful it would be a success and he was not disappointed, with a clearance of more than 95 per cent of the 244 lots on offer.
With storm clouds gathering all around the property and scattered showers falling in the distance, Mr Lupton got the sale underway quickly knocking down a couple of old aluminium ladders.
A successful bid of $13,500 saw a Boyanup-based buyer pick up a Horwood Bagshaw J Series clover harvester while a well used Eckersley rock picker was on its way to Calingiri for $8000.
Chjai Wilkin, Wannamal, picked up a set of Shearer 40ft harrows, on behalf of Michael Brown, Bindoon, conveying his bids via phone to snare the unit for $550.
Four sets of disc ploughs of varying ages, three Chamberlains and one Inter, saw two of the Chamberlain 24 disc ploughs sold, one making $3000 and the other $1000 going to buyers from Kalannie and Watheroo, with the other two units being passed in.
A Morris 9000 bar and a Morris 7180 bin were both picked up by the same bidder, Charlie Wroth, Toodyay, who paid a combined total of $30,500 for the two units.
The Wespray 24m twin line boomspray with 3800L tank was too rich for the crowd and was passed in at $31,000 by the auctioneer.
A vintage McCormick International AW7 was headed for Mundijong after being picked up for $1300.
A registered 1992 Holden Rodeo DLX utility went cheaply to a Dalwallinu purchaser for $1900.
Allan Myers, Kalannie, picked up three items, a Chamberlain Countryman 6 tractor with a single bid of $5000, a Minneapolis Moline G1000 tractor for $5000 and a Dodge 690 tipper for $7000.
The penultimate lot of the day, a Ford Versatile 876 tractor went to Dandaragan for $12,200, while the final unit of the sale, a NH TR89 harvester failed to attract any interest with buyers keeping their hands firmly in their pockets as auctioneer Grant Lupton reluctantly passed the unit in at $30,000.
In the sundries section, Tim Andrews, Dalwallinu, had set his sights on a pair of collectable Silver Rose cool drink boxes to complement his collection of 26oz Silver Rose soft drink bottles, picking them up for $60.
Four old trucks attracted interest with all being sold.
Peter Haenni, Gingin, bought the highest priced of the four, a 3T Bedford for $350 which he intends to restore to its former glory.
Five Ajax wool presses, manually operated, all sold making from $40 to $50 each.
A drill press realised $200 for the vendor, while two trolleys were quickly knocked down for $40.
Two Universal lick feeders went for $1450 and $1500 to separate buyers from Toodyay and Wongan Hills respectively.
Three 28T field bins and a 20T field bin were knocked down from a low of $1200 to a high of $2800 for the four units.
A Honda CT200 auto ag bike was purchased with a single bid of $800 going to buyers from Mt Lawley.
Twenty four 25kg bags of Dalkeith subclover, graded, were knocked down for $122/bag, while 40 bags of Geraldton-Dwalganup subclover mix, each weighing approximately 70kg realised $195/bag at the sale.
At the end of the sale Mr Lupton said he was happy with the turn out and crowd who stayed the course in very hot conditions.
He was pleased with the clearance and the values achieved and it was a good note for the Grosskopf family to finish their farming history in the Yerecoin district on.
