COST efficiency is a phrase that instantly commands attention.
AgWest Machinery Geraldton branch manager Kent Douglas has that story to tell about the latest Challenger MT track tractors - the MT700E and MT800E.
Specifically, he has some impressive figures on a 442 kilowatt (592 horsepower) Challenger MT865E on three metre (10 foot) centres, pulling a four tank Ausplow Multistream M18000 granular air seeder and a 18.2 metre (60ft) DBS precision seeder, working at 125 millimetres (5 inches).
“In demonstrations, the Challenger was averaging between 48 and 60 litres of diesel an hour or 3.5-4 litres a hectare operating at about 1700rpm at speeds between 8.8 and 9 kilometres an hour,” Mr Douglas said.
“With a V12 9.4 litre SISU engine, these models have made a very successful transition from the Caterpillar engine, maintaining the well-earned reputation for durability, longevity and fuel efficiency.”
The models are ‘shoed’ with the patented Challenger Mobil-trac undercarriage system and, according to AGCO, a level of belt contact that puts optimum power to the ground.
Key features of the MT800E Series tractors include oscillating mid wheels that allow operators to work in adverse conditions; a self-contained, in-line track system that can be adapted to multiple applications; a friction drive system that eliminates the need for additional horsepower while reducing slippage and Marsh Mellow springs that reduce vibration for a smoother ride.
The spacious cab interior is designed with operator comfort in mind with intuitive controls, several seating options to choose from and an ergonomic layout.
