WA'S biggest machinery field day, Dowerin, has attracted a big crowd this year.

Running over two days, yesterday and Wednesday, farmers keen to inspect the latest in machinery and technolgical advancements.

Warm, sunny weather greeted farmers over the two days and while some took advantage of some sunshine to complete spraying programs, crowd numbers were definitely up on previous years.

With most of agricultural WA experiencing a good season there was also plenty of positivity in the air from both farmers and machinery dealers alike.

Warm sunny weather?? Where was the journo sited? Not at Dowerin, that's for sure. The second day of the Dowerin field days was a totally grey, cloudy, bitterly cold day, and the most miserable day, I have ever spent at Dowerin, with a S/S/Easterly wind that was straight off the Antarctic ice. I was disappointed with Dowerin this year, as the number of vehicle displays and big caravan displays was down on previous years. There were fewer retailers offering good deals on tools and small, quality equipment ... but a lot more stands offering finance, grain, and marketing solutions to farmers ... most of which, seemed to be poorly supported. I must say, the big equipment was still there in force ... but the biting cold wind and miserable grey day, all day Thursday, didn't really seem to make too many people venture out in the outlying display areas. The food stands could do with a better range of variety - too many just sell pies, sausage rolls, and coke. No wonder so many Aussies are starting to look like obese Yanks. Time to get a really good cafe running at Dowerin, with a good menu that includes plenty of salads and vegies with good meats.
