IT’S always a bonus when you can accomplish multiple jobs with one pass.
The new Kubota CD2400F speed disc fits into that category, according to Bunbury Machinery branch manager Darren Pulford.
With a market dominated by ‘cow country’, Mr Pulford sees this machine as a flexible tool for several tasks, including levelling out lumpy paddocks, with a good measure of pasture incorporation and re-seeding pastures or cover crops, with a frame-mount air seeder.
Mr Pulford believes the CD F-model will find a solid niche in the South West and has been holding demonstrations to highlight its capabilities.
“There are a lot of guys using power harrows to level out paddocks, but it’s a slow operation and you burn a fair bit of fuel,” Mr Pulford said.
“With the CDF, it’s obviously a quicker operation with working widths from 2.5 metres to 5m (8-16.5 feet), with the bonus of added tasks on-the-go.
“We also have the CD 1000 series for shallower work to reduce topsoil compaction while levelling lumps and filling in holes but we see the CD 2000 series for more heavy duty stubble incorporation, while also levelling and, with the
F-model, seeding.
“With the 2000 series, you’re also promoting stubble breakdown and material incorporation to improve soil health.”
This is achieved with the Actipack rollers, which are designed for clod crushing and firming soil, leaving an impression in the soil similar to a press wheel.
This aids volunteer re-growth and the rollers can be adapted for heavy and sticky soils.
A range of optional rollers are available.
The CDF comprises a heavy duty frame in three-point linkage or trailing configurations with folding wings.
Two front rows carry heat-treated 520 or 600 millimetre (20 or 24 inch) diameter scalloped discs arranged in opposite directions (for example, front row left-facing, second row right-facing) to enhance incorporation but also to move soil to fill holes.
The third row comprises the roller with leading finger harrows attached.
According to Kubota, the even incorporation of straw and residues is a key factor for seed germination.
The working depth is easy to adjust by pivoting spacers according to the required depth.
If the full roller weight is required, only one action on the hydraulics is necessary.
The finger harrows are designed to increase residue incorporation.
The CDF SH200 air seeder uses two types of rotor – one for small seeds (rape, mustard, cabbage, clover, etc), and a medium rotor for seeds (vetch, grass, sunflower).
The agitator placed above the rotor ensures a steady stream of seeds and a brush, located at the base of the rotor, regulates the flow accuracy.
For large seeds (peas, horse beans, etc), Kubota recommends choosing the Flex rotor option for larger diameter seeds.
