MASSEY Ferguson showcased its new 8400 series 4WD tractors as the centrepiece of its Massey on the Move demo days at Katanning and Narrogin last week.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary as one of the most recognised names in agricultural machi-ery, Massey Ferguson is staging somewhat of a renaissance in WA, which was a company stronghold for decades in the early 20th century.

Old timers would have been gobsmacked to see the new technology in the new 8400 series while young farmers getting the feel of the models last week were amazed at the features.

The 8400 series comprises four models, with power ratings ranging from 175kW to 235kW (ISO rating) and so many features it is hard to do justice to the series in this article.

An ISOBUS-compatible GTA Console, Datatronic III is avail-able on all models providing software for operating data management and analysis.

Datatronic III enables automated operation of complex equipment and also gathers and records information in multiple memories. It includes an advanced field and headland management tool with manual or automatic programming of up to 35 functions activated at the touch of a button.

Application areas include Work (displays and controls tractor settings and parameters); Settings (for setting the GTA Console to the correct brightness, language, time, date); Headland (for manual or automatic programming of up to 35 headland management operations); EHS valves (used to set the operating characteristics of up to five electro-hydraulic spool valves); Memories (to store the parameters of up to six different implements) and Dual Control (for fully programmed command of Trailed Implement Control and front an rear Dual Control).
