KIMBERLEY women celebrated International Day of Rural Women in style at the Cable Beach Club in Broome two weeks ago, as part of the inaugural Kimberley-Pilbara Cattleman's Association ladies lunch. Partnering with Landmark Broome, the event attracted women from the Pilbara, Perth, Borneo and England.
Guest speaker, ABC foreign correspondent Sally Sara, spoke about resilience, vulnerability in leadership, the power of women in the change management process and the importance of life experiences.
Nikki Elezovich, Country Downs station, said there was something special about "pulling together a room full of rural and community women to celebrate the role that we all play in driving our industry and region forward".
The event raised $5000 for the Isolated Children's Parents' Association (ICPA) through a silent auction and a raffle.
Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemen's Association chief executive officer Catherine Marriott said the ICPA played a vital role in lobbying the government to ensure that children raised in remote areas of the country receive the same education opportunities as others.
ICPA Kimberley Air branch president Jo Camilleri said they networked with many rural women and talk about their role.
"The show of support from the KPCA and our rural
women was phenomenal."
