SHEAR determination and generosity saw $2540 raised at a charity shearing day in Gnowangerup last week.
The day was organised by shearer Tom Reed and the Jumbuck shearing team, which consisted of Ron Niven, Lindsay Hill and Curtis Mackin, to raise funds in memory of a close friend of Tom and his wife Lucy, Liz Roberts.
Ms Roberts passed away on April 8 after an eight-year battle with breast cancer and the Reeds wanted to find a way to contribute to breast cancer research and help fight the illness.
"Liz was a beautiful person who showed such grace, strength and determination in her fight against breast cancer," Lucy said.
A Give in Memory page was set up in Liz's name through the National Breast Cancer Foundation website and Tom decided to donate his wages from a days' shearing at Anglesey Merino stud, Gnowangerup.
The rest of the shearing team swiftly joined in, raising a total of $2040 between the four of them, while Anglesey stud principal Geoff Shepherdson rounded the total up to $2540 after contributing another $500 from his own pocket.
Tom said they just wanted to contribute to the cause in any way they could.
"We just wanted to do something, contribute in some way, so I decided to donate my wages from a days' shearing," Tom said.
"It was for a good cause and in memory of our friend, so when I approached the other guys to see if they wanted to join me, they all agreed to donate as well."
The Jumbuck team were currently in the middle of shearing the stud Merino and Poll Merino rams for their 2014 stud sale teams, shearing anywhere from 8000 to 10,000 stud rams each year.
