IT was another very solid result for Ross and Pauline Taylor and their daughter Kelly-Anne Gooch at their seventh annual Tiarri Prime SAMM on-property ram sale last week east of Lake Grace.
The 27 potential buyers who registered for the sale were presented with a catalogue of 100 top quality rams in great condition and backed by excellent figures throughout.
It was a total clearance by auction resulting in an overall average of $1463, up by $234 on last year when all 99 rams offered were also sold.
The sale was conducted by Elders with auctioneer Nathan King receiving keen bidding throughout and it was the sixth ram in the line-up which had obviously been marked in the catalogue by a number of buyers.
In the last couple of years the top-priced ram along with a few others have headed north to an eastern Wheatbelt client, but with this client not requiring any rams this year and not at the sale, it opened the door for others to bid up.
However, present again this year were a father and son outfit from even further away who were first time buyers last year and also losing bidders on the top-priced ram.
Very pleased with the results from the two rams they purchased last year, Dick Cobley and his son Darren made the long trip down from Geraldton again for more Prime SAMMs to use in their breeding flock of about 2000 mainly F4 ewes.
They were in the bidding right from the start picking up lot four at $1500, lot five at $2500 and finally lot six at the sale's top price of $2800, which was up by $500 on last year's top figure.
One of the heaviest rams in the offering, their top ram has a current bodyweight of 119.5 kilograms, EMD 46mm, fat 6mm and measured 21.8 micron and 98.5 per cent comfort factor in the wool.
The ram the Cobleys bought at $2500 was the equal second top-priced ram in the sale, the other at this figure was one of eight bought by regular clients, IF & KM Walker, Newdegate.
Bidding on behalf of the family was in the hands of Christan Walker who had numerous bidding duels with another regular Newdegate buyer, Matthew Lloyd trading as Tim Lloyd & Co. who was losing bidder on the ram which topped the sale at $2800.
Mr Lloyd went on to also buy eight rams in total to a top of $2400 and another client going home with eight from the sale was Dwight Ness, PW & TA Ness, Newdegate.
Two other clients each ended up with nine head with Rob O'Brien bidding on behalf of KA & SJ Dall, Kulin, while the other nine went to Cugley Farms, Newdegate.
Where last year's sale saw Dick and Darren Cobley as first time buyers there was another father and son outfit as first timers this year.
Ian Phillips and his son Dale made the trip to the sale from their Dowerin property with the intention of trying Prime SAMMs over some of their Merino ewes.
They were drawn to Tiarri given the results the Taylor family has had in WAMMCO competitions and the prices being obtained by Prime SAMM cross and straight bred offspring as indicated in the market reports in the Farm Weekly.
Very pleased with what they saw at the sale they headed back home to Dowerin with four rams up to $2100 on board.
Where many of the Tiarri clients come from more local areas obviously the quality of breeding at the stud is also attracting other buyers from a widespread area. This year's sale saw rams going north to Geraldton and first time to Dowerin, with others going out to Moorine Rock, Pingelly and east to Ravensthorpe.
The sale also resulted in another stud purchasing a Tiarri bred sire privately.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Kelly-Anne Gooch said it was the best sale year with another total clearance.
"We are receiving good feedback from clients and it is pleasing to see it looks like it's a very good season for the agricultural area," she said.
Elders auctioneer Nathan King congratulated Ross and Pauline Taylor and Ms Gooch on the presentation of rams and said it was an excellent sale all the way through with strong support from clients having faith in the sheep industry with a great season boosted by good sheep meat and wool prices.
