BROTHERS Josh and Brenton Addis, Colorado South stud, Gnowangerup, maintained their dominance of the Border Leicester sheep breed competition this year at the IGA Perth Royal Show.
Colorado South rams and ewes have won Border Leicester Best of Breed at five of the last six Royals and this year made it three in a row.
The brothers' 2016 Best of Breed supreme champion and champion ram was a 2015 June-July drop ram sired by Geraldine 28.
For probably the last time, the Royal Border Leicester competition was a showdown between Colorado South stud and Escholar stud run by Esperance Farm Training Centre (EFTC) and its students.
Escholar stud principal Emily McDonald said it was the stud's last show with Border Leicesters and the Esperance Agricultural Show on October 14-15 would be its last competition with the breed.
Having bred and shown Border Leicesters since 1993 the EFTC is swinging over to the Suffolk breed with support and donations from the Australian Suffolk Association.
Colorado South's top ram defeated two Escholar rams in the ram under 1.5 years class to gain a chance at the champion ram ribbon.
The reserve champion ram ribbon was won by the Escholar stud.
The EFTC students saved their best for the ewe competition.
Escholar ewes won first and second place in the ewe under 1.5 years class.
Colorado South returned to win the pair of ewes class uncontested.
The Escholar class-winning ewe and the Colorado South winning pair were then judged for champion ewe with first-time Perth Royal Show judge Colin Holmes, Hyden, deciding on the Escholar ewe.
In the contest between the Colorado South champion ram and Escholar's champion ewe for supreme champion title it was the ram which came out on top.
Mr Holmes described it as a "big stretchy ram" that stood very square.
"He's a very well-balanced ram, structurally correct and well muscled right from his front through to his hind quarters," he said.
"The ewe was also "excellent" and "stood out in its class as quite long and carrying plenty of meat on her."
Colorado South stud was also successful in the breeders' group, for one ram and two ewes and the progeny group class.
