ADDING to its lustre as a top educational institute, the Western Australian College of Agriculture, Cunderdin campus organised and hosted a stud ram sale to cater for small and emerging studs in the area.
In addition to the College Poll Dorset stud, the sale included offerings from the Canaan Dohne stud and Cadonia Park Poll Merino studs.
As another education first, final year student Travis Flack not only received some auctioneering tips from the "master", Landmark's Terry Norrish, but he also offered several lots from each stud during the sale.
The day's top price of $1250 was paid for a Cadonia Park Poll Merino ram with a fibre diameter of 15.6 micron and a comfort factor of 99.9 per cent, being knocked down by Mr Norrish to CS & SM Hill, Cunderdin.
The Hills also took two more Poll Merinos for $850 and $500, with the former also having a very fine 17 micron fleece with a CF of 99.9pc.
JR & RA Lynn, Cunderdin were also keen on the Cadonia Park Polls, taking three for an average of $1033 with a top of $1200 for a 16.5 micron, 100pc CF sire.
Beaulah Park, Cadoux, also took three rams for an average of $750 with their top at $1050 showing a 18.4 micron, 99.9pc CF fleece.
Alan Jones, Cunderdin, paid $950 and $500 for his pair, D & RC Storer, Koorda, bought two at $500 each while Landmark Cunderdin bought one $500 sire on behalf of a client.
Cadonia Park Poll Merino stud principal Bruce Storer was very pleased with both the venue and the sale result.
He noted that they also had been selling on-farm with a neighbour for a couple of years.
"When we were asked to help get the Triple C concept started we were happy to agree as it is a good idea in itself and also another piece of assistance to the agricultural college.
"The sale result was also encouraging, with a good group of buyers and great facilities, so it has been a good move all round".
The sale started off with the Poll Dorset offering of the hosts at the Cunderdin College which saw a total clearance of the 13 rams offered, with their top price of $950 being paid by GC & CM Smart, Cunderdin.
The Smarts were also the volume buyer of the College PDs, averaging $825 for their six rams with prices that included $950, $900 twice and $850.
A top of $900 was the order of the day, being paid by Clement & Son, Kellerberrin, and NA & FJ Cosgrove, Quairading, with Clements paying $850 for their second purchase while Cosgroves paid $750.
AL Carter & Co, Cunderdin, bought three PDs, paying $800 twice and $700.
The remaining rams on offer were the Dohnes from Canaan Dohne stud who had 14 rams on offer, selling 10 of them, a good result for this emerging stud.
The top price of $650 was paid by DA & J Whisson, Cunderdin, who took a second at $500.
While CE & SP Crute, Dowerin, paid $550 for their top and $500 each for their other two. The other five sold all went to Landmark, Cunderdin, for $500 each.
The sale was organised to give a sales venue to small and emerging studs and the response was such that the Triple C sale will continue, although a new title may be necessary as the number of vendors increases.
