THE confidence in the Merino industry was highlighted at the Rabobank Katanning Stud Merino Ram Sale on the final day of WA Merino Week with the sale being well up on previous years with prices peaking at $17,000.
When the hammer fell on the final ram in the sale, 21 of the 30 rams offered had been sold at an average of $7131. In comparison, last year’s sale saw 16 rams sold from 23 offered at an average of $5503. The $17,000 top price was paid by the Eungai stud, Miling, for a young, March shorn ram offered by the East Mundalla stud, Tarin Rock. The top price for a Poll Merino sire was $15,750, which was achieved when a young, March shorn ram offered by the Rhamily stud, Calingiri, sold in partnership to the Kamballie stud, Yorkrakine and the Manunda stud, Tammin.
