WIAA 100: Judith Swales

23 Mar, 2014 01:00 AM

JUDITH Swales is the managing director of Fonterra Australia – one of the country’s largest dairy processors that is responsible for collecting about 20 per cent of Australia’s milk from 1300 dairy farmers and processing this milk at one of its 11 factories into dairy foods for domestic and international consumption.

The daughter of a milkman, Judith grew up helping her father on his daily milk run and now lives part time on a small farm outside of Melbourne surrounded by animals, having come full circle to her roots in dairy.

Judith believes dairy has the potential to be the manufacturing powerhouse of Australia but that we have to stop talking, focus and actually make it happen. And that’s what she’s aiming for at Fonterra.

Prior to Fonterra, Judith was the managing director of Heinz Australia and chief executive officer and managing director of Goodyear Dunlop, Australia and New Zealand. She has served as a non-executive director on the Dulux Group board since April 2011.
