WIAA 100: Nicole Birrell

NICOLE Birrell is a leading Australian company director with particular expertise in risk management and corporate governance.

After studies in Antwerp and London, Nicole commenced her business career in the banking industry with Chase Manhattan Bank, followed later by County NatWest and then ANZ Bank.

She moved into non-executive director ranks in 2000 joining the board of South Australian grain handling company Ausbulk, staying on this board until its merger with ABB Grain in 2004.

Nicole has also served as a director of the Grains Research and Development Corporation, Wheat Exports Australia, Queensland Sugar and is currently a director of Wheat Quality Australia and a member of the Board of Trustees of CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, Mexico).

Nicole and her family own grain and sheep properties in southern NSW and SA.

Outside of agribusiness Nicole is also currently a director of Superpartners as well as SMS Management and Technology.

Nicole is an active and valuable contributor to agribusiness in the production, strategy and governance fields.
